Plans:
Mary-Ann supervised this one so she can say she's seen us on placement - but she visited us at the uni visit instead. WE NEED THE G-CLASSROOM IMAGES! We need to stick the letters to the banner. We need the three pupil's writing who weren't there on the uni trip. Framing and planning how to hang in the room - think about nails for hanging too. Frame (Ask Lindsay re payment?) prints at school and hang with students - think do they want a wee exhibition - friends and family come to see it with snacks and drinks - yes they want this event in the evening. They have exams after this week so we will finish after this. We got paper from Lindsay too. We got the refund from February for the Ubers.
During Easter:
Print off final images with correct crop factor and the words from the kids. Frame images - think about nails for hanging too. Based on the below email from Jenny we will get each pupil to frame their own and hang it - we can buy nails and sketch out the layout beforehand to transfer it onto the wall and adapt where needed on the day. Easter lasted 2 weeks. The pupils then had exams which is why we had to wait for another two weeks before being able to go back for the framing and hanging.
The day changed from the 2nd May to the 4th and the timing from 3:30 to 3. We corresponded with Jen to arrange all this. She will try to get all the info to us from the google classroom too. We explained that laminating the poster for the Nurture space may be an issue as it's sat at the school and unless they have a laminator there this won't be possible unless we send it off but that may cost them. We'll see how this progresses. I used a process in Lightroom to create a mask effect where I could brighten just the shadow side. We then, in PS, adjusted all the images to be the same size and when printing, made sure each had the same border so they are ready to frame.
Hanging and Exhibiting Day:
Prepping for Exhibiting - buy nails, check frames are in good condition. Images are printed. Work out laminating issue for the banner. Monday we managed to print and mount the text using zine paper, foam board and double sided tape. I framed each image at home because we didn't think the pupils would have time to do it.
We ended up meeting George in the woodwork room at the school when we arrived at 1:30. He set about adding hooks he had to all ten frames. We left him to it and went to the Nurture room where we began to stick the letters to the banner with double sided tape. George and John then grabbed ladders and I directed them to make sure it sat even and straight above the desks in the Nurture space. Re Jen's emails we had to hang it inside the room to avoid pupils tearing the banner if hung outside the room where the old sign is for Nurture. We prepared the written texts by putting the double sided tape on. George began hanging the images using a laser to make sure they hung straight - such a quick way to do it! All ten images fitted in one line. We stuck the text beneath each print, under the shadow line so they were all straight and aligned. One had a spelling mistake but we were able to re-print it and re-stick it to the foam board before people arrived. I used some paper from the sink area to remove all the dust left on the frames. Pupils were either no longer at the school, on exam leave or in an exam whilst we prepared for the exhibition. Biscuits were laid out and parents and teachers and some of the pupils filtered in. We received excellent feedback, one teacher became a bit tearful looking at the work. Pupils seemed thrilled to see their work on the wall. We chatted to one teacher who noted that pupils aren't naturally engaged and that we should take credit for how engaged they were. Jen and John had made certificates for the pupils and we all clapped as they received theirs. The pupils, Jen and John got us both a box of chocolate and a card which was so sweet of them. Jen thanked us for all our hard work and said she'd happily give us a reference and that we were welcome back anytime. We got access to the Google classroom during this visit but found not all pupils had uploaded weekly to it.
